The Valhalla Inn Thunder Bay is currently recruiting for a Banquet Supervisor. The Banquets Supervisor is a detail-oriented leader focused on providing creating outstanding guest experiences and exceptional guest service at all functions in the Banquet Department. As a member of the Banquet Team, the Banquet Supervisor is responsible for leading the team in the execution of all banquet functions while maintaining the highest standards of quality and service function from set-up to breakdown. This position requires an energetic, self-motivated, detail-oriented leader with a passion for going above and beyond to provide guests with outstanding experiences. This hands-on leadership roll inspires team members and leads by example with the goal of developing a highly motivated, committed team. The Banquets Supervisor is a role model and leader consistently exhibiting Silver Hotel Groups values with guests and associates providing hands on leadership contributing to efficient operation of the Banquet Department.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Department Leader, the Banquet Supervisor will:

  • Provide direction and oversight to all Banquets functions and processes to ensure they are executed in manner that exceeds guest expectations
  • Be knowledgeable of all department procedures, applicable government regulations, training procedures, scheduling and payroll.
  • Be fully knowledgeable of the goals and objectives of the department and communicate these goals and objectives to your team members while assisting the Department Leader in achieving them.
  • Lead by example the importance of having a professional guest service attitude to all associates, and assist the Department Leader in providing the necessary tools and techniques that to develop these skills
  • Lead, guide and encourage associates to operate in the most professional and courteous manner, and continually build morale within the Banquet Department.
  • Be knowledgeable of the legal responsibilities for serving alcohol and your responsibilities as Supervisor
  • Monitor and provide feedback to all associates regarding complaints and customer feedback to identify trends and take pro-active action, escalating to the Department Leader when needed.
  • Respond in a courteous, professional and rapid manner in order to inquires and act to resolve service recovery situations resulting from guest concerns
  • Collaborate with other departments in the hotel in order to maximize revenue, efficiencies and guest service satisfaction
  • Foster team member confidence about making decisions on the job, provide collaborative, energetic, support and feedback to associates. With an emphasis on recognizing and rewarding constructive behavior
  • Conduct regular performance appraisals and performance management under the direction of the Department Leader as necessary, focusing on associate growth and development
  • Maintain a friendly, professional and productive working relationship with co-workers and management from all departments
  • Assist all guests in a sincere courteous manner, whenever possible going the extra mile and doing whatever it takes to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Understand and apply all hotel safety and security procedures as required to maintain a secure and safe work environment for associated and guests.
  • Understand and comply with all health and safety rules, regulations and laws. Report unsafe acts or hazardous conditions, report all workplace incidents/accidents or near misses, wearing all Personal Protective Equipment required, and participate in the fire safety plan;
  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings
  • Cooperate with all supporting departments to ensure a seamless experience for our guests, ensuring our vision of passionate people creating exceptional experiences is at the forefront of every interaction;
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Manager.

Job Requirements

  • 2 or more years’ experience working in hospitality or comparable service industry
  • Previous supervisory experience an asset
  • Hotel Banquet experience an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to modify, and understand financial information, data and basic arithmetic functions
  • Computer skills and knowledge of various programs, knowledge of property management or point of sale software and asset
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripheral
  • Ability to work independently
  • Deliver experiences that create guest loyalty and a desire to exceed guest expectations
  • Computer use and cashiering skills required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must be detail oriented with the ability to prioritize, organize and multi-task
  • Proven time management skills and ability to work under pressure;
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Interacts/communicates with the public, guests and team members
  • Available to work days, evenings, weekends and/or holidays as required,
  • Moderate to high level of mental effort.
  • Moderate to high level of physical effort (can include activities such as periodic lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Standing and/or walking for prolonged periods
  • High level of sensory attention: sight and hearing.
  • Hotel environment
  • Overtime as required.
  • Smart Serve required
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
